One of the hallmarks of every Project school's success has been its participation in the Project's most rigorous form of staff development: Leadership Groups. Most of the current TCRWP staff developers and teacher-leaders have emerged from these groups, in which dedicated educators work alongside colleagues to develop and implement new ideas in the teaching of reading and writing.
More than 100 expert teachers of grades K-8 participate each year in these intensive, high-level study groups. These teachers develop curriculum in the company of one another and become teacher leaders for other teachers.
Each of the groups meets in the evening, some at TC and some in schools across the city. Group members make classroom visits together to deepen their knowledge base. Fall and spring Leadership Groups meet for eight three-hour meetings and one daylong retreat (or classroom visit). It is usually possible for participants to pay for and receive P-credit for participating in one of these courses. We recommend that teachers from schools working with the Project for the first time sign up for spring courses.
This year, we have groups on content area literacy, comprehension pathways, small group work, technology and other topics.
Please note: Leadership Groups are only available in conjunction with our on-site staff development.
